Movement in time - Baroque renaissance compared to impressionism era

Looking at he composition of pieces through out time is incredibly interesting. Looking at what the focus may be in cities when they are being painted and how that fluctuates with time helped me look at how I wanted to compose my piece. In addition, the biggest visible change is the actual style of painting. Although this varies between artists, the more textural and expressive aspect of impressionism has always really interested me, and I wanted to show the idea of movement in time by actually looking at how I can explore a piece but put it in a more modern context, and shift the style as that happens over time. When looking at how I was going to transcribe 'The Stonemasons yard' by Canaletto I decided I would play with the idea of movement in time by shifting to a more vague style where there are bigger brush strokes and less specific detail, but instead a bigger focus on texture. I wanted to maintain the colour through out the piece of the oranges and the browns and the colours in the sky and I made them more vibrant. I used strokes of blue to highlight areas of the painting and bring in a modern/abstract way exploring the more modern way we may express a landscape, showing movement through time in painting style.
