Research on Cornelia Parker

"Cold Dark Matter: An Exploded View" by Cornelia Parker furthered me to look into shadow and the way objects create shadow in a variety of ways, especially depending on the size and placement of the light source. This research was then channelled into the photographs taken which explored the shadows created by the random compositions. In a similar way to Parker's piece, although there are objects and compositions creating the shadow, the focus is not the composition but how it creates the dark and light contrasts and different shapes of the shadows created. Looking at how other artists have a focus on contrast, light and tone helped me explore the way you can also play with light to create such imagery. The way the shadows Parker makes with her sculpture is such a significant part of her work and not just something that is caused by her work, but instead an integral part of it is so interesting. Shadows are things we see constantly and are with us all the time, but playing with the light and looking at how we can make them into an effective piece of art was very interesting for me to watch.
