Inspired by Mel Brimfield (and Cindy Sherman)

Mel Brimfield practices a discipline of various mediums etc. Her practice tends to explore scripted performance and looks at photography, drawing, live work, moving image and audio. This huge variety of ways she expresses her work I found very interesting and useful when looking at my initial exploration of Theatre Screen Production. By looking at character's even through photography and also looking at things like scripted performance but in a fine art focused way interested me a lot. Her multi-media exploration drew me to her work as she covers so much within art mixing things like experimental theatre and painting! 2Death and Dumb Part 1 really interested me as it is a piece with just a series of 9 mouths all doing different expressions. It looks almost collagey and is photographic but it also looks at ideas surrounding the creation of characters through such facial expressions. It pushed me to create me as characters and place them in almost set designs tht therefore influenced the creation of the full dystopian set. In addition, I connect her work to artists such as Cindy Sherman as you can see her creation of characters and attaching it to fine art. Both of these artists helped me develop my work further as I looked at masks, creation of characters and how screen and production can be mixed with other forms of the art practice.
